Imposter Syndrome and Anxiety with Model Amber Le Bon
“I have huge imposter syndrome, even now... I will be looking around the room thinking, I’m not supposed to be here am I?”
Despite having featured in editorials such as Tatler, Vogue and Harpers Bazaar, model Amber le Bon shares with the Be Well that like many of us, she has experienced issues with her body image and imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is defined as “the persistent inability to believe that one's success is deserved, or has been legitimately achieved as a result of one's own efforts or skills”. A syndrome that comes hand in hand with feelings of anxiety and fear that one will be exposed as a fraud. Something which has affected Amber throughout her career. She exclaims that “the little voice in my head can be very loud and it’s very difficult to reign it in and keep it under control.”
Having experienced anxiety and panic attacks, Amber shares that one thing that she finds really helps her, is to tell friends how she is feeling. In knowing that she has the support from the people around her, who understand how best to handle the situation can help her to feel less self conscious. “Letting your friends know how best to handle it, so that you don’t then feel so embarrassed. Because the embarrassment makes the panic attack worse.”
