Body Acceptance and Self Criticism with Director Sadie Frost
“I have always had a very overactive mind, so if I’m not channeling it into positive things it could easily get negative. I could get very self critical, I had a lot of anxiety and panic attacks. Where I would literally call an ambulance and go to hospital it was that bad. And I have learnt how to not let that happen anymore.”
Sadie Frost looks back on her early career as a young model and describes the struggles that she faced around body acceptance, self criticism, anxiety and later depression. The fashion industry of the 90’s, was one where Sadie felt out of depth and pressured to act out of her comfort zone.
Sadie’s low self esteem was exacerbated due to the highly critical fashion industry and an unsupportive, judgemental modelling agency, nick naming her “Thunder Thighs”, which sadly lead to the development of an eating disorder and obsessive behaviours around food. Issues that are all too common within an industry centred around aesthetics.
