Social Comparison and Perceptions of the Fashion Industry with Model Mia Wells

“I think it’s very important to remember that modelling isn’t all it turns out to be. People always assume that it’s a really glamorous job and that there is no need for things like the Be Well Collective and that models don’t need to be looked after, because they have such fun jobs. But in reality it is still a job and it comes with problems.”

Mia Wells shares with the Be Well, her experiences as a new model starting out in the fashion industry. Mia addresses the lack of support provided to models, due to the assumption that modelling is an “easy” job. However, Mia reminds us that modelling comes with it’s challenges, like any other job. And that those starting out in this industry, need support too.

Mia discussed the issues with comparison that she has experienced whilst working as a model. She speaks about how she overcomes this with her own methods of self care such as playing piano, baking and ensuring that she treats herself, all of which allow her to take time away from a negative headspace.
