Dr David McLaughlan is an award winning medical doctor specialising in mental health and wellbeing. He has carved out a respected academic and clinical career whilst increasingly becoming a voice promoting mental wellbeing through the celebration of inclusion, diversity and equality.

Dr David’s journey began at medical school where he was awarded the John Blair Trust Prize and the American Graduate’s Prize. Alongside his medical degree, he also undertook a BMSc in Neuroscience and graduated with honours. At the same time as studying, Dr David was scouted by Select Model Management and went on to work with luxury brands including Bottega Venetta, Harvey Nichols as well as British fashion icon Hilary Alexander and legendary photographer John Swannell.

 
 
 

Dr David’s clinical career began at Chelsea Westminster Hospital where he gained experience in general hospital medicine, accident and emergency medicine and weight loss surgery. In 2011, he began his specialist training at the prestigious Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neurology, before being awarded a research fellowship in later years.

In 2016, Dr David was awarded a scholarship by the Royal College of Psychiatrists to study with The Centre For Sustainable Healthcare in Oxford. These opportunities have allowed Dr David to contribute to a number of respected journals including Academic Psychiatry, The Psychiatric Eye and The British Journal of Psychiatry.

Dr David is an exciting, charismatic and engaging public speaker. In recent years, he has become a regular member of panels, discussing themes such as wellbeing, sustainability and diversity. He has also delivered wellbeing training and innovation consultancy with a range of clients including The Ned Club, Google, HappyNotPerfect and Edmodo.

In addition to The Be Well Collective, Dr David supports a number of other charities which promote mental wellbeing amongst vulnerable populations. In particular, he has worked with refugee groups and the LGBTQ community through his engagement with Out For Sport and the All Sorts Youth Project. Dr David looks after his own mental wellbeing by making time to swim, both for leisure and competitively. He is a three time gold medallist at the British Masters Swimming Championships as part of the Out To Swim men’s relay team.
