A little about Thrift+ …
Joe left his job as a business consultant in 2014 to start Charity Street, the first click & collect app for high street charity shops. After 2 years working with large charities with national shop networks, Joe shifted his attention to providing a donation service directly to individuals to improve the ease, transparency, and effectiveness of donating clothes that could attract a higher selling price online.
Thrift+ was founded in February 2017 and is now selling over £25,000 of quality second-hand clothes each month. It has now raised over £100,000 for small charities all over the country. Based in Deptford, SE London, the team is just 3 people - Joe Metcalfe (CEO), Poppy Rainer (CTO) and Kay Hubbard (Head of Ecommerce) - supported by a team of highly trained “Thrifters”: local students and graduates who sort, photograph and upload the clothes. Their technology uses automated photography and automated pricing allowing the team to rapidly get your item online and sold for the right price.
The cash donations are processed by PayPal Giving Fund, who don’t take any fees, allowing donors to select any registered charity in the UK. This means that any charity, big or small, can begin raising valuable funds from their supporters second-hand clothes.
